The Alternative Market of Puebla (AMP) is a community where they connect local farmers with consumers seeking fresh, seasonal, and non-GMO produce, fostering a local food system.
Their old website design was very outdated, failing to create a positive first impression for potential users. It also lacked features that would simplify product listing for farmers and product discovery for consumers. And most importantly, it did not have a responsive layout, it was not optimized for mobile devices.
The website's navigation and search functionalities were confusing, making it difficult for consumers to find the information they need about available produce and participating farmers.
As the sole designer and developer for AMP web redesign project, I shouldered a significant responsibility. This project required a multifaceted approach, encompassing:
Design Thinking: Understanding the needs of both farmers and consumers through user research was essential. This involved interviewing consumers at the market and performing competitive analysis of similar websites.
Visual Design: I translated AMP's values and mission into a visually appealing website. This involved using their (newly created) color palette, designing layouts, and creating a user interface that is both informative and user-friendly.
Information Architecture: I structured the website's content in a way that is clear, concise, and easy for users to navigate. This involved creating wireframes and prototypes to ensure a smooth user experience.
Front-End Development: I translated the design into a functional web experience. This was done using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript to create the website's layout, interactivity, and responsiveness across multiple devices.
